I see them as distinct, but I think the hang-up might come from the words sincerity and insistence.
I think nerds act with an earnest sincerity. They believe, through their own developed sense of personality and taste, in what they’re doing. That doesn’t mean, however, that they’re unwilling to change, or insist that their way is the best way.
I think with any cultivated sense of style, taste, etc. a hallmark is change. But the difference, in this case, is the impetus. Dorks change because they’re desperate to fit in. Nerds change because they’re genuinely following their curiosity.
So the hardliners that I’m referring to in number 32, are definitely fucking dorks.
